Performance

The Subaru Outback is available with two powertrains across eight trim levels. All trims are equipped with all-wheel drive. The entry-level powertrain is a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. It is accompanied by a continuously variable transmission and hill descent control. The 260-horsepower, turbo 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine has the same transmission. Its all-wheel drive drivetrain is paired with additional driving modes for enhanced performance. The Santa Fe is also offered with a standard engine and a turbocharged engine. These are paired with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. All trims are offered with all-wheel drive as an option.

Appearance

The 2022 Outback has confident styling with prominent accentuation from front to rear. The black, hexagonal grille features a chrome bar running across its top. The grille sits over a large, wraparound bumper with a skid plate. The prominent LED headlights have a teardrop-like quality. Black body molding, high ground clearance, and raised roof rails add to the Outback’s functionality. The Santa Fe’s exterior shows off a tall profile with chrome accents that wrap around the lower perimeter of the vehicle from bumper to bumper. The grille spans the entire length of the nose. It is intersected on the sides by T-shaped LED headlights.

The Outback is well-appointed across its trim levels.
