2021 Subaru Forester vs 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

Serving Fairfax, VA

With two impressive crossover SUV models like the Subaru Forester and the Volkswagen Tiguan sitting at the top of your list, how can you decide which model to focus on? As compact crossover SUVs with roughly the exact measurements across most dimensions, you may be inclined to assume that they share many other traits. However, the Subaru Forester’s base price is below Tiguan’s starting price. What other differences should capture your attention?

The 2021 Forester has achieved the perfect balance between urban styling and adventure-minded accents and features from front to rear. Its relatively tall roof gives the Forester the structure for a spacious cabin. With subtle definition across the flared wheel wells, prominently angled accents on the side doors, and a chiseled hood, the Forester expresses its robust capabilities from all angles. A chrome bar flows across the top of the grille on the nose, and this bar sits level with the LED bars that wrap around the headlamps. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan also has a tall roof, but it stands apart from the Forester with almost flat surfaces across the hood and roof. It also has horizontal linear elements across the grille and through the side doors.

Inside, the most significant difference between these models is the seating configuration. These vehicles have roughly the same overall space in terms of cubic feet. The Forester has two rows, which leaves ample room for the passengers and cargo. The Tiguan has a third row, decreasing the amount of available cargo space and legroom for all passengers. While both models have remote entry, a sound system, power windows, and other equipment, the 2021 Forester also comes with adaptive cruise control, HD radio, satellite radio, and a security system.

While the Tiguan and the Forester have a similar four-cylinder engine that generates approximately the same amount of horsepower, the performance capabilities of these models are strikingly different. This is because Forester’s engine is mated to an all-wheel drive drivetrain and a continuously variable transmission featuring overdrive. On the other hand, the Tiguan’s engine is tied to a front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission with overdrive.
