Across the trim levels, both the Crosstrek and the Outback for 2022 are available with two powertrains. The introductory powertrain offered for the 2022 Crosstrek is a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter system that produces 152 horsepower. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Other trims are equipped with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder system that generates 182 horsepower. This is combined with a CVT. All trims for the Outback and the Crosstrek have all-wheel drive. The Outback’s lower trim levels are outfitted with the same 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, 182-horsepower engine in the Crosstrek. The Outback's higher trim levels offer a 260-horsepower, turbocharged 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. Both of these powertrains are linked to a continuously variable transmission.

The impressive Crosstrek has lean dimensions with a long angle across the windshield. The rounded front end holds a Subaru-branded grille and multi-elemental, flared LED headlights. You will find thick, geometric molding rounded over the fenders and angled accents crossing the door panels on the sides. A power liftgate, foglights, and roof rails are included on the Crosstrek. As a midsize crossover SUV, the Outback is larger. However, it has a similar grille, a roof rack, a power liftgate, and an aerodynamic profile like the Crosstrek. Comparatively, it has thinner body molding and taller, tapered headlights. Vertically-mounted foglights also differentiate the nose.

These Subaru models will continue to impress you with their exceptional features. In fact, you will find many of the same features in both models. Shared equipment between the Crosstrek and the Outback includes:

  • Keyless ignition
  • Keyless entry
  • Heated front seats
  • EyeSight driver’s aids
  • A touch display screen
  • Auto climate control
  • Smartphone app integration
  • USB ports
