2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness vs 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness

Serving Fairfax, VA

Fairfax-area auto shoppers who expect rugged capabilities from their next vehicles often take a closer look at the Subaru lineup. Both the compact Forester and the wagon-like Outback have been engineered to support an athletic lifestyle. They are also both available with a Wilderness trim level, which has off-road-ready capabilities. How do these models' Wilderness trims compare to each other?

Performance

The 2023 Outback Wilderness is powered by a 260-horsepower, four-cylinder, turbo 2.4-liter engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. This trim also has a lifted suspension, a front skid plate, and an upgraded all-wheel drive system. The Forester Wilderness, on the other hand, has a 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine with a CVT and all-wheel drive. It also has a front skid plate and higher ground clearance.

Appearance

The Outback's exterior across all trims is defined by a small grille with a molded, black front bumper. The black grille is relatively small, and it has crisp, angled LED headlights. The thick molding that crosses over the wheel wells and the lower perimeter of the vehicle shows off the forward angle of the Outback. The Outback Wilderness's exterior has upgraded roof rails, LED foglights, a windshield wiper de-icer, power-folding and heated side mirrors, tinted windows, copper trim, upgraded bumpers, and 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. The Forester Wilderness has these same exterior features and adds an anti-glare hood.

Features

The Outback Wilderness is properly equipped with simulated leather and water-repellant upholstery, a blind-spot monitor, evasive steering assist, rear cross-traffic detection, heated front seats, an 11.6-inch central display screen, wireless smart device connections, a leather-covered steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, auto braking with a forward collision alert, lane keeping and a few other items. The Forester Wilderness has many of these same features, but it stands out with its 8-inch touch display screen and a panoramic sunroof.
